Papanași and Găluște cu gem – 18th April, 5:30pm UK time
Sunday, 18th April, 5:30pm GMT. Let’s make these two staple dishes in Romanian cuisine: Papanași and Găluște cu gem. There are a few variations around but I have chosen the recipes that will keep your shopping list short, since the ingredients are pretty much the same for both dishes.

We love these two dishes in Romania, and as you can imagine with something that is so close to our hearts, there are a few variations around. I have chosen the recipes that will keep your shopping list short, since the ingredients are pretty much the same for both dishes.
Papanași fierți - simmered curd and semolina dumplings, rolled in buttery, crunchy breadcrumbs. We are going to serve them with sour cream and stewed fruit. Expect a delicious dessert that crosses back and forth between sweet and tangy. There is no sugar in the actual dumplings, so don’t expect it to be overly sweet.
Găluște cu gem - simmered potato dumplings, filled with your favourite jam, then rolled in breadcrumbs, and enjoyed warm or cold. Again, there is no sugar in the dumplings, you will only get the sweetness from the jam and breadcrumbs.
In Romania, both dishes are made and eaten with great enjoyment throughout the year. In the autumn, when plums are ripe, we make ‘Găluști cu prune’, plum potato dumplings. In the winter, we use jam or prunes (dried plums) to fill these gălusti. Papanași too are incredibly popular everywhere in the country, and it is likely that you find them served fried instead of simmered, served with blueberry jam and sour cream.
Prepping: minimal prepping needed, you will only need to boil the potatoes and weigh all the ingredients.
Diets:The course is not suitable for vegan, dairy free or gluten free.
The course will be held on Zoom. Closer to the date, you will receive all the recipes and instructions. After the course, you will be sent a link to the recording, which will be valid for 10 days. In this way, you can cook the dishes at your own pace, if you can't cook along with us.
